IGBC Student Chapter – Multidisciplinary Event Report
The IGBC Student Chapter event was conducted on 3rd April 2025 at the Pillai College campus as a multidisciplinary academic collaboration between the Department of Architecture and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The event was conducted in line with NAAC guidelines to encourage interdisciplinary engagement, and was attended by students, faculty members, Heads of Departments, and Principals from both departments.
The event was Jointly Inaugurated by:
- Dr. Sudnya Mahimkar, Principal, Pillai College of Architecture
- Dr. Sandeep Joshi, Principal, Pillai College of Engineering
The primary aim of this event was to establish an official IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Student Chapter at the institution and to promote awareness, learning, and collaboration on sustainability and circular economy principles in architecture and engineering.
The event was directly aligned with the academic curriculum of both disciplines—especially the subject Circular Economy in Architecture—by addressing current practices, industry standards, and collaborative solutions to sustainability challenges in the built environment.
- Ms. Lubna Rohail Bombaywala – Counsellor, IGBC. She has been actively involved in promoting green building practices and policy advocacy at the national level through IGBC.
- Mr. Bhavesh Mehta – Member, National Steering Committee, IGBC. He is a veteran professional in the green building sector with strategic input in sustainability policy and certification processes.
- Ar. Rashmi Kolhatkar – A practicing architect with a specialization in sustainable architecture, she has worked on IGBC-compliant projects and contributed to design innovation in eco-conscious construction.
Ms. Lubna Bombaywala delivered a presentation on Sustainable Practices in Housing, with a focus on IGBC rating systems, material efficiency, and passive design strategies.
Mr. Bhavesh Mehta highlighted the Future Scope of Sustainability in India, emphasizing career opportunities, research domains, and the significance of IGBC certification in professional practice.
Ar. Rashmi Kolhatkar shared project-based insights on Sustainable Building Practices in Architecture, touching upon circular design thinking, use of alternative materials, and energy conservation techniques.
The event also included a Q&A session where students interacted with the guests to understand real-world applications of green building concepts.
Students gained exposure to national sustainability standards and the IGBC certification process, linking academic learning with industry practice.
The event reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving sustainable development goals.
Students from both departments understood the practical applications of circular economy concepts in housing, materials, and mechanical systems.
The event laid the foundation for future academic activities, workshops, and student-led projects under the IGBC Student Chapter.
